Photograph of the Comet Moth or Madagascan Moon Moth (Argema mittrei). Taken at the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead, Long Island. It is native to the rain forests of Madagascar. These guys spend most of their lives feeding and preparing for adult hood to only live for about a week after transformation. Crazy!

A female has broader short tales compared to the male that has longer and narrower ones. Can you figure out which is which from the picture?

What is the importance of this, nothing really; except the fact that it got me thinking. We can learn so much from our children. From their fearless drive, continuous creativity, and desire to learn. You should always strive to be better, gain more knowledge, but children really bring that out. It is our jobs to teach and guide them.

We can go to the aquarium, park, zoo, wherever, and it is always a learning experience. Why, because their is so much to learn and each day it is seen in a whole new light. I am sure at an older age it will change but for now I will cherish this.

I used to come and snap photos without too much knowledge of exactly what I was taking a picture of. I just cared about getting a great shot. It is becoming much more. Being able to engage and explain the things to my son makes a great bonding experience. He doesn't get it all now but he enjoys it regardless. It makes me look forward to future things like homework and science projects. Things that will challenge us and make us work together for a solution.

Momentum "Your children are the greatest gift God will give to you, and their souls the heaviest responsibility He will place in your hands. Take time with them, teach them to have faith in God. Be a person in whom they can have faith. When you are old, nothing else you've done will have mattered as much." -Lisa Wingate

I remember a few months ago he wanted to be carried up the stairs. Then he did a couple and wanted to be carried the rest of the way. Through frequent trips and alot of practice, he is going all the way up on his own. No help required.

I love this photo. I have so many thoughts and emotions looking at it. He is growing up so fast. Everyone tells you the time goes by quick, but you don't realize it until you stop to look back. You have to really slow down, capture everything, and cherish every moment. It is really bittersweet. Sad because those times are gone and never coming back, but happy that they are growing up to continue conquering new experiences and challenges.

Continuous Growth Every time I take a photograph, I learn something new. I study it from the settings to the composition. Most importantly I look how I can improve on the next one. Photography is a constant learning experience; from the challenging adjustment in light to continuous movement of the subject. It is both fun and rewarding whether you're delivering the product to a client or just capturing it for your pleasure. A photograph is a memory to hold and cherish forever.

Laugh and Play Everyday I am reminded of how lucky I am. He brings out all the love in my heart, and he challenges me to be a better man for my family.

Today we hung out in the yard and went to the park. He was so excited to run around. Beautiful days are coming.

The Gunny Week 3 Theme: Body Part

I decided tomorrow will be the last daily blog for the 365 project. I wanted to complete 21 days so I would establish a habit into the new year. I will continue to post photos here but in an album on the site and only blog when I have something great to share.

Today I am holding a gunnery sergeant rank insignia. It is very humbling to have been selected for this great promotion. I think about all the noncommissioned officers and staff non commissioned officers that mentored and trained me throughout my career. I think about all the Marines over the years that busted their ass and accomplished the mission. Thank you all for allowing me to be successful. I want to also thank my family that has stood by me and the continued support on this journey.  I look forward to continuing to serve this great nation and seeing where the road takes us.

Winding the Night Down Week 3 Theme: Body Part

Another week in the month of January. This week the theme will be Body Part. I look forward to this one because most of them will be the little guy. I need to actually get these photos done rather earlier in the day so I have more energy for all the thinking and editing. Today I photographed my little dude winding down before bed with his feet propped and crossed. He is definitely exhausted from an eventful day today. Hopefully his dreams will be great and long throughout the night.

Cool Little Cut Week 2 Theme: Cold

The weekend is here! Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable one. Step away from work, it'll be there on Monday. Enjoy your time off with your friends, family, and/ or maybe some recreational activities. Today I used the synonym Cool in place of Cold. Photographed my Cool little dude getting his hair cut by barber mom.

Cold Craft Week 2 Theme: Cold

What better way to capture Cold than photographing some cold ones in the refrigerator. Did you know not all beer is meant to be served at one temperature? The average beer temperature will be between 38 and 55 degrees depending on the style. A great website to check out the temperature and other facts about beer types is Enjoy

Tempered Hands Week 2 Theme: Cold

Wow! What crazy weather we've been having. From bundled up in inches of snow to tee shirts in the clear streets. I am not complaining though. It is great to get out with the little one so he can continue to stretch his little legs and explore. Out for a stroll today and could not believe how much of the snow melted. I am very happy I didn't waste time and energy shoveling so much. After taking advantage of this beautiful day, I let my son play with some of the left over snow which he had a blast. Today's capture is of him and his Cold snowy hands. He grabbed snow and crush it in his palms, I was able to catch some of it exploding in the air.

Shot this with a 35mm 1.8 lens.

Cold Expressions Week 2 Theme: Cold

Hey! Moving into week two with the new theme of Cold. Considering it is Winter this shouldn't be too hard. Today was another day in the snow, this time in full snow gear. He was having a blast but it didn't start out that way. I think just like any of us when we first hit the cold we want to run inside. Here is my son's cute little expression of wanting to run inside.

Product Reboot Week 1 Theme: Newness

I enjoy taking Younique product photos for my wife. It allows me to be creative with staging the products and I get to help her out a little. A backstory on today's theme of Newness. One of Younique's signature products is their 3D Fiber Lash Mascara. After some feedback from presenters and customers, Younique made improvements and reformulated the product. Pictured below is the new and improved 3D Fiber Lash Mascara they have just released with better quality fibers resulting in a longer lasting product!

Open up your World Week 1 Theme: Newness

Hope everyone is having a great new year thus far. We are at the hump of the week. Today we had some beautiful weather at around 50 degrees with the sun shining. I took advantage and decided to go out for a walk. I like to get out and walk the neighborhood to see whats going on. I usually carry Brayden the whole way but decided to let him walk this one out and see how he would do. I was a little nervous he would fall and scrape his hands but it'll happen eventually. Well he surprised the hell out of me and walked straight on the sidewalk and went a whole block on his own. This was our Newness for today's photo, very exciting and very proud.

New Flavor Week 1 Theme: Newness

Day Three is this delicious Talenti flavor I just picked up yesterday, Peanut Butter Pretzel. Usually there is Peanut Butter Chocolate or Butter Pecan in the freezer but after enjoying the gelato I wanted to have new flavors in the freezer especially when they're on sale. I took a photo of this earlier and posted it on Instagram. While trying to figure out what I wanted to photograph today I realized I took the picture for Instagram because it was a flavor I had not tried which reminded me of the Newness for this.

To photograph the gelato I didn't want to just point and shoot at it. I set it on the brick fireplace and used continuous light to control how and what I wanted lit on the container. I also picked a frame where I could get a nice focus between the foreground and the background.

The Time of 2017 Week 1 Theme: Newness

Most people will enter a new year with some type of resolution in which a large percentage will not follow through for very long. It takes 21 days to make or break a habit. Most people fail because they don't actually plan prior to the new year. It is never to late or too early to make a change. Every day is a clean slate, so set goals and set a course for success. Remember to look around and enjoy the journey along the way.

Rolling into Day 2 with this photo of my cellphone at 2017 hours. Sometimes an idea will just hit you and you have to go with it. I was sitting on the couch thinking of exactly what I would do and saw the time was 2015. Had to grab everything, run to setup and shoot. I am happy with the turn out of this and love how suiting it is for the weekly theme of Newness.

I am open to comments and critiques. If you have any just leave them in the comment section.

New Year Day 001 Happy New Year!!

Week 1 Theme: Newness

Kicking off the 365 Photo Project with photo number One. This little man will definitely be an inspiration throughout but there will be more. I have done some of these and never actually made it all the way through. Things always come up and I put it to the side. So this time I will try a different approach and use weekly themes. Its going to be nice to have direction but fun and challenging to capture within it.

This week the theme is Newness, so I decided to use the sunlight pouring into the living room to light up Brayden while playing with his Happy New Year necklace.

I encourage anyone else who likes to photograph to give it a try. You don't need a fancy camera for it. We take so many photos throughout our day anyway, why not add a little fun, creativity and challenge. It's also fun to have multiple people in the project for motivation.

Holiday Cheer Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday.

I first want to say thank you to those who can't be with their families during this holiday and season. The ones who are working to keep us safe everyday and the ones deployed over seas. These are the people that are preserving our rights and freedoms so we can enjoy this time. May they stay safe and be back to their families soon.

I hope everyone woke up to a bountiful tree, filled with presents and cheer!

Last year was the most special Christmas ever with the birth of my son. It was even more amazing this year getting to watch him take action and tear open some Christmas presents. I am so thankful for friends and family to be able to celebrate, share, and make memories with. This is what it's all about, laughing, cheering, and watching our children grow. The little smiles that make everything perfect.

New Beginnings       The New Year is around the corner. That means everyone is probably reflecting on the past year and setting goals for the new one. It takes 21 days to start a new habit. So I believe if you want to start something and be successful with it, start it earlier than your desired date. This gives you the time before hand to establish a consistent routine. One of my goals for 2017 will be learning and photographing more. This means client services, new gear, and a 365 Photo Project. I will also be using this page more to show images and put down thoughts to exercise my writing since English awaits me for the Spring Semester.

This was a wonderful and very eventful year. The best part has been watching Brayden grow his first year. When I look back it all seems to have gone by so quick. I mean everyone tells you it goes by fast, but you don't actually realize how fast until it happens. Every so often I browse through my Facebook album of Brayden and can't believe how much he's grown. The photos in the delivery room take me back to that moment of emotion every single time. Having the ability to freeze memories to hold and cherish for time is one of the reasons I love photography. To a New Year of memories, sharing them, and crushing goals.
